Pitchfork’s Top 20 tracks of 2000’s – Are you kidding me?

23Aug09

For a list compiled by a reputable indie music blog, this is pretty bad.

Behold Pitchfork Staff’s Top 20:

20. The Walkmenquestion-marks
“The Rat”

Pretty good band – but to be in the top 20 for 2000’s?  Give me a break.

19. R. Kelly
“Ignition (Remix)”

Really?  R. Kelly?  Really?

18. Hercules and Love Affair
“Blind”

Great band, great album, not the best song on there.

17. Annie
“Heartbeat”

Again, not the best song of the album

16. The Rapture
“House of Jealous Lovers”

Meh.

15. The Knife
“Heartbeats”

OK – this deserves to be in there.

14. Jay-Z
“99 Problems”

Reason #99 why Pitchfork should fire their staff.

13. LCD Soundsystem
“Losing My Edge”

Great band – not the song I’d include on this list.

12. OutKast
“Hey Ya!”

OK – this one is fine.

11. Gnarls Barkley
“Crazy”

Ugh – fine.  This one works too – although I never want to hear it again.

10. Arcade Fire1305_press_image_2
“Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)”

Again – REALLY?  THIS is not their best song of 2000’s.

9. Animal Collective
“My Girls”

Meh.

8. Radiohead
“Idioteque”

I suppose it’s hard to figure out Radiohead’s best song of 2000’s…  Fine.

7. Missy Elliott
“Get Ur Freak On”

Hmmm.

6. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
“Maps”

Works.

5. Daft Punk
“One More Time”

Not sure if this is DP’s best song of 2000’s.

4. Beyoncé [ft. Jay-Z]
“Crazy in Love”

Ugh.  Fine.  But #4?

3. M.I.A. [ft. Bun B and Rich Boy]
“Paper Planes (Diplo Remix)”

Works.

2. LCD Soundsystem
“All My Friends”

So LCD is on here twice – so it’s more influential than Radiohead?  Retarded.

1. OutKast
“B.O.B.”

Wow.  Is this really the #1 song of 2000’s?  How disappointing, Pitchfork staff.

Also, how the HELL is Kanye West not on there and Radiohead on there only once? A big fat FAIL.
